2. know the pros and cons
3. know the consequences if you dont
4. talk and treat yr projects like they are real, to a program and budget

Example
Student A puts some fire signs in a visual to make it look more realistic

Student B has read and knows the Part B building regs requirements and has a fire plan noting escape signage, escape routes, travel distances, evac points, muster station areas, extinguisher locations, FD30/FD60 doors noted etc. They also know the inward opening door 60 persons max rule. Not only do they know this, when discussing their GA, they cross reference the fire plan, note the above points to justify their design and how it is both compliant and buildable as well as a great design concept, as if it was a real live project and seeking BCO approval and compliance.
