As a designer, especially a graduate, everyone talks too often about how much you earn and what you are WORTH. What you should really be talking about is what VALUE you add because they are 2 different things. The basic graduate salary varies depending location but about £20k is a fair average. Look at the table break down in PAYE to see your weekly, monthly and most importantly daily take home after TAX (yes it hurts the more you earn!) On paper that is what you are worth on the first step of the ladder (FYI my first design salary was around £11-12k!)Now ask yourself what VALUE you bring aside from being hard working and committed. Ask your self before that next interview,what do you bring to the table to make that company more efficient, professional, capable…..is my VALUE in front of my WORTH?Remember the more VALUE you have, the more experience and skills you have and demonstrate day in day out, the more your WORTH goes up (sadly so does your TAX!)…..
