Congratulations to all of the 3rd years who have had/are having Thier graduation shows…. it’s a big deal and for most it is a one time deal….. you should all be very proud of the past 3-4 years and all that you have accomplished…..There are not many websites / LinkedIn groups that allow you to see the current previous graduation shows and everyone’s FMP so you should really be paying attention to what universities are doing (not just the graduates but the tutors too!). Why is it so important? Because their work is to be celebrated and enjoyed…… and also the reality is that this is the competition…fact…..For every graduate / junior designer role there will be fierce competition and the 1 person who beat you to that role is in here/ the 100 people you beat to that role are also on this group. And everyone is posting their FMP, folios, etc so pay attention, see who is doing what and why and how….Every year I spend my time searching out 99.99% of 2nd and 3rd year students on LinkedIn and invite them to be part of the current 1950+ connections I have here for one very good reason…. to open your eyes up to what everyone else is doing, potential opportunities to educate you to the industry standards (beyond your university course) and make you industry ready…….. and get you to that role first!!So yes celebrate everyone’s work ….but also really start paying attention to everyone’s portfolios / degree shows (outside of your university group) and see what everyone else is up too and why….. (note the opportunity to see so many great and diverse folios and degree shows on one group is very rare so really use it to your advantage!!)…. always look for an opportunity to grow by learning from others!!
