Design is about about being creative….However when you start your first role as a junior designer it is also about documentation control, project administration and paperwork/email collation. Doing creative drawings is one thing, logging vital information, regulations and agreed sign offs, tender price work and paper/email trails with design changes is another. Missing something important, be it a change or a key agreed dimension can be catastrophic and cost time and money to rectify. It is always vital to review the documentation because you never know what you may find…..
For example yesterday I posted about how this whole LinkedIn page started plus a link about a pdf document. My analytics shows me how many opened the link to review the information compared to how many just read the post and moved on….(which is fine by the way). However those that did open the link would have seen a preview that gave away 7 pages outlining the micro macro design approach and key principles (FYI If a student discussed their design approach to that level of detail, I would be impressed).
For those that have graduated, now is the time to start that real world thinking and principles…. For those in their second year, start now and get ahead of the curve…..
