Following discussions with the attendees on last weeks session, the next TEAMS lecture will be about Public Speaking, Verbal Presentation Techniques and the art of SELLING. Yes you heard that right, the art of SELLING. As a designer you need to SELL your concept, SELL your designs, SELL your portfolio to either a client, a contractor or a potential employer in an interview. If you think your portfolio is enough you are selling yourself short. As I have outlined here all too often, it’s what you say that is just as important as what is on a piece of paper, the journey you went through to achieve that design and most importantly, the challenges and problems you overcame to get there. The topics covered will be:

Confidence and the Importance of Public Speaking
The Art of Storytelling

Why is this so important for a designer? A bar technical drawing shows me your CAD competency. I may look at that drawing for 20 seconds so it’s important that you tell me your story about how you achieved both the bar visual appearance that relates to your research while managing to fit in all of the bar equipment, the modular approach to reduce manufacturing costs while outlining the functionality of the bar allowing for services and maintenance of the area as a whole tells me so much more! A SOAR tells me how you overcame the space constraints challenges and restrictions, that you have thought beyond just the aesthetic, how you developed the brief further to consider ergonomics, customer experience and staff usability, contractor buildability, site installation, equipment maintenance and functionality while staying true to your research. Tell me that engaging story in 60 seconds and suddenly you have added so much weight to that single drawing and said so much more about you, your designer mindset and work ethic!

These are closed group session so if you are interesting in attending please message me directly.
