Here is one thing that every project can never have enough of, be it residential, commercial, superyacht, retail, etc – STORAGE!!! If you design smart, you will find every nook and cranny in every piece of joinery as well as you plan to allow for storage. Projects are designed around a £ per SQM/sqft. If you have dead space you are wasting the clients money so think carefully about how you can realistically maximise every mm/inche. Then when you get to present, you have some real world thinking in there.Also, another tip for retail and commercial projects, think about where all your IT lives. You will need either a COMMS cupboard (retail if small shop) or if commercial, a COMMS room for all your IT hub equipment atleast 3m square minimum with a tower in the middle (600x600mmx1.8m). This is the hub that every goes into and out of – either high or low level to service all of your workstations etc.
