How do i stand out in an job interview?

How do i stand out in an job interview? I get asked this all the time. The answer is obvious ! Demonstrate your abilities beyond just design and presentation techniques. What does this look like? Any followers of my posts will see that I go on about design being more than just designing. You have to be able to show you are industry ready to stand out. Can you do the following:

1. Sell a design, an idea, a concept, a scheme
2. Plan the work to meet the deadline, the brief requirements and the budget (company time and project spend) with a timeline program
3. Work in a team, as a team player, committed and confident by showing a DRM aligned to a project program
4. Demonstrate your work is beyond that of a graduate and be to industry standards I.e. demonstrating full design packages, specifications and documentations, all cross referenced with standard drawing numbers, finishes labels etc with an issue sheet

Just like design, it’s the details that count. Show an employer an industry ready folio and they will see you add value to their company because you don’t need 3 months to learn it…… you add value straight out of the box.

So if I asked you to produce a outline timeline program for a 4 week project with milestones and a signoff, a DRM for a team of 3, a full drawing issue sheet / drawing list with intergarted material, sanitaryware and ironmongery schedule for a tender drawing package…..could you?

Are your lecturers getting you industry ready?

Are you being taught you this for every project so it becomes your standard approach to a project?

If you aren’t ……. maybe you should come to one of my lectures and learn something new……
