How do you demonstrate you add value to a project when you are a graduate?
Show real world standards in your projects while maintaining creativity. What does this look like?
1. Show design standards in your technical drawing package (pretty visuals only tell half a story)
2. Show compliance with building regs and highlight them in your presentations
3. Drawing numbers, door and finsihes codes and cross reference drawins and details
It’s that simple. Want to show a potential employer your are industry ready?
Produce a door schedule with aligned ironmongery schedule and a partition plan with door codes all cross referenced.
Why? As a rule door schedules are a real pain especially on large projects (5-10 doors no problem/ 100 doors becomes a real headache)…everyone hates them as they can be very complicated with different trades, contractors and suppliers plus need to comply with regs etc…Show you are capable and industry ready!
Now what does a door schedule look like?
The template can vary like most things in design but here is a good example of what they can look like……
So my next question is does your folio demonstrate this? And if not, why not…..and if your uni course is not teaching this, ask them why not? After all, they are supposed to be getting you industry ready right?
