How to learn from design without falling into plagiarism.

Original design is hard to do. It is very rare. let me explain:

West side story is a revised Romeo and Juliette

A Star is Born film has been remade – 1954,1956,1978 and 2018.

Otis by JayZ & Kanye West used samples of “try a little tenderness” by Otis redding (if don’t know this song, try it, it’s a tune!)

Stop trying to reinvent the wheel, find a design that inspires and learn from it:

1. Find an interior that inspires you
2. Dissect it into colour, shapes and forms
3. Understand the design philosophy, the approach, the practicality, what they did and why
4. Look at your design to understand what you need to do and why
5. Take the “liked image” philosophy and implement aspects into your interior and redesign to suit with your own twist to create something bespoke for your interior with enough design development to stand on its own as an interior concept
6. Do not just cut and paste!!!
7. Be original by learning from those ahead of you!!!

Think about commercial design, a desk is a desk, an office is an office….you can’t always reinvent the wheel and don’t create bad design out of spite. Successful design is successful for a reason so add your twist and be creative where you can…..
