So why is this LinkedIn group so important to the current generation of graduates?
1. This page is set up for students and graduates only (and the odd college tutor who accepts my invitation)
2. This page has been running for just a few years so last year’s graduates are now junior designers in the industry, and the graduates before, etc
3. I don’t accept any other professionals into the group other than those who started on this page as students / graduates
Why?
1. It is important for the current students (2nd years) to see the graduate shows and FMP for inspiration
2. It’s important for graduates to see what last year’s graduates/ junior designers are working on, where they work etc
3. The current junior designers can see the next generation coming through
How do you benefit?
1. It’s a great networking introduction (for a company you want to work for) and you have an automatic common link / opportunity to introduce yourself to an employee and get the contact details / low down on how to get an interview there, with whom etc and any tips? They were once where you are now….
2. Think of it as a time machine so align your roadmap where you want to be in 12/24 months time by learning from the generation ahead of you…..
What are you waiting for? This group is a graduate networking opportunity if you use it correctly……And if you don’t, someone else on here will and get their foot in the door…. Invite an ex college graduate or someone working locally to your degree show and pick their brains…..Again What have you got to lose?
Remember every year that goes by the networking opportunities will grow as everyone moves forward in thier career and experience, from junior, to middle weight to senior designers all with a common thread and link…..HERE!!!
I started this group to give back everything I know…… And that should be inherited by you all. Passing the knowledge and opportunities down….give, take and giving someone that was once in your shoes that big break……
Again what are you waiting for!!!!
