What’s the difference between university and the “real world of design”?
1. Time…. simple as that. you are being paid “by the hour” to find the problem and solve it. You will be given a time line to find the research good enough to set the design theme, create the drawing package for tender, create a concept in a set number of hours!!!
2. Pressure…… Creativity against the clock is a very different dynamic especially wh n you are the cog in a “design machine” and others are waiting for your input before they can proceed!!!
3. Money…. you have to prove your worth, add value to the project and team and most importantly be profitable against the budget set out by the company to the client!!!
This is why I go on about:
TIME X ENERGY X EFFORT = MONEY
Demonstrate you can handle the pressure, manage a project, plan a project, organise a project to industry standards to a strict timeline and workload and your stock and value goes up as you can work on a. project straight away!!!
