You should enjoy every time you sit at your desk with a blank sheet of paper and a design brief…..Why? There is nothing like that first challenge of a different design sector or design challenge needing a solution. You learn after gaining a number of years/projects that the challenges get ironed out at the earliest of stages because you know what works and what doesn’t. New challenges still present themselves but they are often born out of challenging the norm (that varies depending on your design sector, time constraints, client and budget).One day you realise you are designing less and spending more time on emails and excel spreadsheets and in meetings. Then the day comes when you are telling others what and how to design with the occasional sketch to demonstrate a solution to a problem. Finally you wake up one morning and realise you can’t remember the last time you were drawing……!27 years ago my first boss told me how lucky I was to be constantly drawing and designing and how he longed to be doing that. With greater responsibility comes less design and more management.One day you will probably realise your design life is more emails and excel and less space planning and scribbles….. enjoy it while you can because it really is the best bit!!!
