So if your read the posts (150+ and it will change your design outlook if you do…..!), you will notice I talk alot about things that aren’t creative, that aren’t aesthetic, that aren’t fancy or outstanding in colour, finish, etc etc.
Why? Because these are the realities of design. The bare bones, fundamentals of getting a project done….. And these will make all the difference in an interview or just a chat with another designer.
In one of my recent lectures I bet money if anyone could talk about something as non creative as a fire door for 60 seconds or more…… Why? Because real design is not 100% creativity and in an interview you need to be more than just a creative. You need to demonstrate knowledge and real industry thinking…..
Once we have spoken about your concept, design approach etc, talk to me about something live and real to ground your project and show your knowledge i.e. spec of your fire doors for example. Engaging with someone who understands the correct spec, fittings, potential install issues is more valuable because after that initial concept stage, I need someone who has k nowledge and experience in the realities of design. They are worth their weight in gold and get things built, on time and in busdget.
Build your knowledge and learn to talk about the basics because that does make all the difference….
