What is a Floor Threshold…?

Thresholds or transition strips are a detail to allow for a material change on a floor. You walk over them everyday but probably don’t notice.

Carpet to timber

Timber to vinyl

Timber to stone

Stone to carpet

These allow for a change in height be it mm just to allow for good fitting, clean junction as well as safety reasons re trip hazard

That’s why it’s important to understand the floor build up. For example vinyl on the floor would need a ply build up to match a stone floor thickness junction.

Normally these are hidden under doors where possible to hide them visually.

Indicate different coloured lines to note the different threshold transition trims (as per list above) with in your floor finishes legend key between different floor finishes.

It’s the little things like these that make all the difference when showing real world standards  in your folio and attention to detail.
