When is it easier to get a job,? When your career is already moving forward and you are growing in a design job. Sounds simple doesn’t it…
Finding the perfect design job, be it luxury residential, super yachts or commercial for the fancy innovative IT strat ups wishing to push the boat out, isn’t easy with the competition growing on a yearly basis. These roles are both few and far between and so just building on your knowledge and live experience is key. Plus helps paying the bills!
If you have a design role already, you are growing and moving forward with improvement in your skillset, knowledge and experience. Watch listen, learn, ask questions and look at who is doing what you want to be doing in 2 years.
If you aren’t in a design job, just get customer experience/ selling skills and keep the motivation. Plan your time to work on yr folio, CV and new skills via you tube etc to keep momentum. Motivation is key and after uni yes you are on your own. Keep your uni group going with regular calls, teams catch ups and more as it’s easier to find and grow as a team rather than on your own.
Apply for every design job you can just to improve your interview skills, hone your folio and % of success. Get your foot in the door and get your career going, then use it to build and grow to get to where you want to be… We don’t all start in our perfect design company/role, you have to move towards it on your own by building the “blocks” required to get in, be it as a junior, middleweight or senior designer. Patience is a virtual trust me.
Have you done a roadmap yet??? If not how do you know where to start let alone where your going???
