Scope creep…?

So what is scope creep? It’s an industry term where by a project outline was given by a client, normally a “brief” outline of the proposed works.

This is then costed, programmed, broken down in to stages/phases etc and the contract signed and the project starts.

Then as it develops, be it through discoverables, or a pivot be it budget increase or a change of direction / redesign with greater SQM/spec or the brief changes, either way it is often with an increase in workload required.

So the original “scope of works” gets bigger, thus it “creeps” along…(Sometimes it can be a very subtle change by the client not expecting an increase in “designer costs”… But there is no such thing as a ten minute job!)

So the next time someone notices your design pivoted, the brief expanded or just grew, explain it as a “scope creep”
