The beauty about this linkedin group is that it gives each and everyone of you the opportunity to check out the competition…yes that’s right… The competition.
1. Every graduate this year will be applying for some of /most of the same jobs as you…
2. Now is the time to see what everyone has done for their FMP, Their swansong, the culmination of 3-4 years of education, training and lectures / blood swear and tears …
Why pay attention?
1. Learn from the competition. What have they done, technical/ visual / sketch approach that you can do now / add to your folio? How creative were they? Is there a good balance between reality and artistic licence?
2. What mindset approach have they adopted that could benefit your skillset? How fast are they? Cross referencing to save design time? Budget, timeline, ideas and approach?
3. What have they learnt that you didn’t? Not all courses are the same. Some are more artistic, some are more industry approach, some more creative with freedom of expression. Only now will you realise what you have / haven’t been taught…
4. Are they industry ready? Note everyone says they are… But there is more to design that just learning RIBA defined Stages 1-5. Ask any junior designer in the industry after 12 months and they will say how much they have learnt and grown…
Every student / soon to be graduate is posting there degree show FMP so now’s the time to pay attention, really look at what they have designed and why…
