As many of you post of your university graduation, here’s a few words of wisdom from someone 30 years further down the road…
1. You have achieved something very special so you should be proud taking into account COVID and other obstacles that would have impacted everything
2. If you got a 1st, that’s amazing, if you got a 2:1, that’s amazing, if you got a 2:2 that’s amazing. If you didn’t get the grad you wanted, that’s ok too. I was desperate for a 1st but got a 2:1 and yet no one in 30 years ever asked me about my qualification…
3. Dont stand still. Recoup, re charge and then keep learning and growing while looking for your first design role. Add a new skill, improve on your CAD via you tube and more. This could be adding more to that FMP or areas that you wish you had done differently as an addendum.
4. Now university isn’t driving the curriculum, it’s only you so what are you going to do to improve, grow and maximise your potential to land that first role? Road map the next 6 months to dedicate time on a daily, weekly basis to get ahead of the curve to get ahead of the curve. In an interview, if you explain what you have learnt over a 6 month period since uni would show commitment and potential to a future employer.
