Call yourself an interior designer / interior architect? What does that actually mean?
To a client?
To a contractor?
To yourself?
3 years at university you should know what that means right?
Is there 1 answer?
Is there a monologue style lengthy “war and peace” response?
Or is it a short sharp answer?
Or is it bespoke to you?
I personally don’t believe there is a right or wrong answer. You can go down specific box ticking aspects using key terms re human scale, creative, function, form, inspiring, etc…
Yes there is a standard description response (feel free to Google /ask ChatGPT to find something if you must…..(which you shouldn’t!!!)
Please think long and hard and find your truth to this question and it should be a more individual response rather than the traditional response….. “I create amazing spaces that fulfil the brief as outlined by the client”…..
And it’s highly likely your response will change over time, from project to project, client to client…Trust me after 30 years my response is very different from when I was asked about 30 years ago “why do you want to be an interior designer?”
I now ask this question of students / graduates I work with alot. Yes you should have a response and it should be tailored to you and reflected in your work approach, your folio and your mindset…
So, let me ask you this, what makes you an interior designer?
(Curious to see if anyone comments on this post?)
