What is interior architecture and design?
I could ramble on about ergonomics, form follows function follows form (?), aesthetics, visual appeal and stimulation of thoughts, feelings and emotions, practicality, operational approach, useability and much more….
Instead let me explain it another way:
Think of your favourite film. Remember the main theme to the soundtrack (orchestral piece). Did you notice throughout the film there was variations, abstract versions and more running through the whole movie, yet most only remember the main theme? That’s why it’s so planted in your mind because seeds have been planted throughout the 90 minutes+ and you didn’t even realise.
The composer created a piece and then broke it down, tweaked it nominally and then planted it to suit other scenes and therefore lay seeds to hook you in and plant memories of that film and more when you hear that main tune/hook.
That’s what design is. Creating a set of design shapes, forms, styles, colours, patterns and more and then planting them throughout your spaces, tweaked, adjusted to suit but subconsciously all telling the same narrative, branding ideas and /or more to tell your story.
1 of my lectures is I sketch concept/detail design an entire hotel (bars/restaurants/room types/reception/corridors/ceilings and more all with tiering) all in about 1 hour. That sets the standards for my design and more so I know what I’m doing, why and how all with dims….. And it all starts by designing a skirting profile as my muse!!!
Stop reinventing the wheel. Think like a composer and work smart not hard. Create a great shape, form or design idea, regardless of how big or small and then adapt it to suit…
